My Role Model

My mom is my role model because of her caringness for children. Since my mom is a coach she has to love kids and she loves doing things for kids. my mom has a passion for cooking and she cant just cook for the family she cooks for about 20 people literally. She is just a great person I cant put her personality in words because its too great for words.

My mom is my role model because of how strong she is as a black woman in this world. As my mom was growing up she didn't have anything like kids have today. My mom was a smart child and did what she had to do in school to keep my grandma proud. When she was about 14 my grandma made her fight 15 girls and boys that tried to pull my mom back from the excellence she was striving for because they just didnt like her. And she it as anadult with great children and a great life.

Who as it harder in america a rich black man or a middle class white man

To me i personally think that the rich black man has it harder than a middle class white man because if you see a rich black man people will think that he was either selling weed, or hustling or doing something that is illegal. When he could be doing the same actually what the white rich man is doing but because of some of the wrong things that former black men have done people have seen african americans as bad people.
For an example bernard madoff operated an ponzi scheme that has been called the largest investor fraud ever committed by a single person.Madoff founded the Wall Street firm Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC in 1960, and was its chairman until his arrest on December 11, 2008. So i am saying that african american men are seeen as theives and robbers for stealing from corner stores and chinese stores when this one white man stole billons of dollars and you would not have ever known if he wasnt arrested. What make someone a role model

I think anybody could be a role model.Usually a role model display resposiblity, dignity, and leadership. But you could be a lazy fat dont care about nobody human being and still have children look up to you.If they want to live that life. But everybody have to make their own decision in this world , good or bad. For example some people role model might be president Barrack Obama a strong positive leader who trying to bring this recession to an end. On the other hand some people may see George W. Bush as a role model who might go down as one of the worst presidents in history. SO this is my opinion of a role model.

My role model is Dwayne Wade because of all the struggles he went through as a child. His mother had him on drugs at the age of four. He got separated from his mother at the age seven and she never came to none of his basketball games until he was in college. Even despite all of that he made it to the NBA and won an NBA championship and is one of the best players today.

In philadelphia the youth is not being heard.
But then when something happens, people say "why didn't you speak up?" I believe we are speaking, it's just that few people are listening. We, as teens, are going to writing workshops and discussing the problems in Philadelphia, and really showing that we care. However, in my previous
time dealing with politicians, teens asked the mayor questions and he wasn't taking it serious at all.

Here are some reasons why I think the Mayor or anyone else should listen; First, teens sometimes get information before reporters because we see things as they happen. We can help when something happens because we get the facts first. Also, we almost always speak the truth when it comes to situations that involves the Philadelphia community because it is important to us.

BET is Killing our Youth By Shafeeq Coleman

I say this because BET is not putting out the right message toward our youth. They have girls shaking there tails with nothing on but a thong and they think that it is cool. Most kids think that all the money and cars on the videos belong to the rapper, but did you know that most of the time it dosen't? All they do is rent most of it and then return it after they are done. Most of the artists are not even the minds behind the music, it is the writer who gets little credit for his or her work.

All I am saying is that people shaould really sit down and really take a look at what BET is promoting to our youth.

UYA Trip to Chinatown

On friday July 10, 2009 the UYA Rising Star went to Chinatown to learn about the history of Chinatown and the struggles they went through to avoid getting the vine street expressway built in their territory. The way I understood it is that they wanted to not have the expressway built so that their community would not spread into the American society and so that it wouldn't be so crowded. Personally, I think its a good thing that they spread through the community so they can grow with Americans and we can all make America better. But they might think its a bad thing because they don't want their people to get used to the American life, they may want to stay with their Chinese rituals. Either way, the express way is noisy and crowded, and not the best way to adapt to American life.

I think that the trip to Chinatown was very uncomfortable but fun . I didn't like the fact that when our tour guide talked about the history of Chinatown she had us standing in the hot sun, However that shows how Chinatown needs to make some more adjustments, perhaps plant more trees so that visitors could feel more comfortable.
